ADULT SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASS OFFERINGS . . .
Crossing the Divide ~ deepening our understanding of Luther’s theology of the cross - “The cross alone is our theology,” said Martin Luther. Yet over the last two decades the idea of atonement has come under heavy attack from feminist theologians and others who argue that traditional formulations valorize suffering.
We will read and discuss a book by professor of religion, Deanna A. Thompson, Crossing the Divide: Luther, Feminism, and the Cross, in which the author engages with Martin Luther’s thought and his Heidelberg Disputation as well as with feminist theologies to offer a promising and life-giving theology of the cross. This class is not just for women, but for all who wish to understand more fully the meaning of the cross for our lives.
Now -October 29, 2017 in Grace Café Eisenberg Hall Leader: Pastor Martha Sims.
Beatitudes - "Blessed are the… for theirs is the kingdom of Heaven.” The Beatitudes don’t promise laughter, pleasure, or earthly prosperity. Being ‘blessed’ by God means the experience of hope and joy, independent of outward circumstances. We gather this Fall for Sunday School to explore the Beatitudes.
Now – October 29th, 2017 in Christian Streit Room Leader: Pastor Jonathan Boynton.
The Wired Word - How is Scripture relevant today for our daily lives? Each Sunday morning we will gather for thought-provoking discussions as we relate current events with Scripture and theology. Together, we will: Reflect on Scripture readings in light of contemporary events. Share common thoughts and ideas. Recognize diversity of thought among us. Materials will be sent ahead of time each week to participants through email. Now - October 29th, 2017 G.M.O.C. Assembly Hall Leader: Pastor George Sims.
