Help Restore Our German Bell
One of the ways we have decided to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the Reformation is to restore the 1790 Bremen, Germany Bell, which hung in our original Church steeple in what is now Mount Hebron Cemetery, through donations. It is in our current steeple, but currently cannot be rung for safety reasons. The restoration will include installing a new clapper, support bolts, pulley and rope. Once restored, we will be able to ring it on Sunday mornings, for weddings, funerals, and special occasions, like Reformation Sunday 2017.
The cost of restoring the bell for use is $6,500. Donations to help with the restoration should be marked “Restore Bell,” and can be mailed to Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church, 26 W. Boscawen Street, Winchester, VA 22601.
